Food quality control unit

Today group A had a lecture with PPKP(K) Fauzi regarding food quality control. He described regarding the Food act, function of the unit and also certain aspects regarding premise inspection.

The objective of the unit is to protect the community from dangers of health and fraud of preparing, selling and usage of food. They also make sure the food is processed, stored and maintained in a clean environment.

The functions of the food quality unit include enforcing the Food act 1983. They also inspect the food which is imported and produced locally. Food produced for export purposes is also examined by the food quality control unit. They inspect food production premises and take court action if necessary. Sampling various food products and sending them for microscopic, chemical and physical examination.

Conducting inspection of food premises and preparing related reports. The unit also prepares reports regarding the monthly and yearly food quality control activities.
The unit also investigates complaints and takes action against responsible parties.

They also register and produce food handling cards and keep records of these cards.
The unit also gives advice and health education to food producer. They also have to keep and upgrade information about food producers. The unit has to take immediate action if there are cases of food poisoning.

They are also in charge of ordering, keeping and safety of equipment for use of food control unit. They also are in charge of preparing the paperwork for the court. They also prepare and conduct weekly, monthly, annual activities of the unit and estimate the needed budget.
